On the highway we head south. The driver reads electronic mail and posts on platform X, then finally finds time to tidy up the photo collection on his smartphone. Meanwhile, the car drives itself. We tried out the Drive Pilot from Mercedes-Benz in the S-Class, and it is also available in the electric EQS. The surcharge is 6000 euros. The Mercedes is controlled autonomously, the assistant accelerates, brakes and steers, while the driver can concentrate on other things and no longer has to observe what is happening around him. The first few kilometers are very unusual; you constantly have the impression that you are doing something forbidden.
