German FAZ: VW appoints 252 temporary workers 010351

Volkswagen wants to employ 252 temporary workers in Baunatal, whose fixed-term contracts expire at the end of the year. The works council of the Volkswagen plant in Kassel, as the location is officially called, announced on Tuesday that they would be permanently accepted into the VW core workforce on January 1, 2026. “This is a strong signal for our colleagues, for the Kassel location and for the entire Northern Hesse region,” said works council boss Carsten Büchling, commenting on the agreement with the company management. However, there is still no solution for around 130 other temporary employees, whose contracts also expire at the end of the year. However, Büchling wrote that Volkswagen had promised “that employment would be offered at a subsidiary.” IG Metall pointed out that it had “already prepared lawsuits for permanent employment” for many of the temporary employees, most of whom, according to previous information, had worked at Volkswagen for six years. “It’s good that a solution was reached at the negotiating table,” said the first representative of IG Metall in North Hesse, Oliver Dietzel.More on the subject
