Volkswagen: networking and software orientation

The manufacturer Volkswagen was praised for the networking and proclaimed the sovereignty of the software – also with Daimler?

When it comes to networking Volkswagen on the WLANp Standard, which the EU does not consider default was established. Instead of C-V2XWith the mass integration into the new, Volkswagen creates what works on the basis of mobile radio VW Golf Facts.

Networking the vehicles with each other and with the infrastructure helps to increase traffic safety, because this way you are informed about dangers. Be it the ice on the present route or a fast approaching car at an unclear intersection.

For a good rating from the NCAP Tests also require networking and most recently the ADAC the technology is being examined and Volkswagen is rated particularly well, according to the company. In addition, the networking of TÜV certified and so the ADAC speaks of a “milestone” in development.

The system becomes active at 80 kilometers per hour and, in addition to traffic safety, also serves to flow traffic, which is associated with lower emissions. The more vehicles are connected, the better. That’s why Volkswagen wants to equip other models with it. However, put some manufacturers on C-V2X via mobile radio, which is not compatible with this network.

In addition, Volkswagen has now announced that it will concentrate more on the software. Because not only autonomous driving is a software thing, electromobility is also heavily software-driven. In summer the VW wants to launch its ID.3 electric car, which will be followed by the ID.4. To 2050 no more burners are to be manufactured.

With regard to the software, a forge is being set up within the group: Car.Software. You also want the digital transformation push ahead. 2,000 new jobs will be created in the digital segment, while 4,000 administrative jobs will be cut by 2023. By 2025, over 10,000 software engineers will work at Car.Software and the group plans to invest seven billion euros in this.

Furthermore, according to media reports, Volkswagen plans to work with the manufacturer Mercedes Benz to collaborate on the software. Talks have already been held on this. It was probably also about the new software platform MMA (Modular Mercedes Architecture). Whether that also affects the planned cooperation with BMW regarding autonomous driving has remained open.
