German FAZ: The new high culture001750

If this continues, then Eminem will soon be part of high culture. In any case, the American rapper has a surprising number of fans among the people who have something to say in Germany. “I really enjoy listening to Eminem,” said the then Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche ten years ago. Ulrich Khuon, the director of the Deutsches Theater, also counts Eminem among his favorite singers. The Veronika Grimm economy does the same. “I like Eminem,” said the philosopher and former Minister of State for Culture Julian Nida-Rümelin. The pianist Igor Levit even went so far as to say: “Probably Eminem helped me understand Beethoven more than Beethoven himself.”

Anyone who doesn’t know Eminem well, that much can be said, has an educational gap. Anyone who cannot have a say in the rapper’s latest album has already given away a topic in the small talk of the Berlin Republic. This is stupid. Because being able to have a say is a valuable skill. It pays off – in money and power.
