German FAZ: Apple pays surprise bonus002406

The technology company Apple has apparently given some employees substantial stock bonuses to attract talent to the company. Last week, the Californians briefed some engineers in areas such as silicon design, hardware and software about the unscheduled bonuses, according to a report by financial service Bloomberg referring to informed circles.

The surprising windfall at Christmas ranged from around $ 50,000 to $ 180,000 in some cases. The shares would mature over four years and would thus offer an incentive to stay with the iPhone manufacturer.

Meanwhile, Apple’s rival Xiaomi is planning R&D spending the equivalent of a good 14 billion euros over five years. As a result, the Chinese want to become the world’s best-selling smartphone brand within three years and outclass Apple. The company now employs more than 16,000 engineers.
