German FAZ: Bosch complains about car manufacturers003229

The world’s largest auto parts supplier is following up on the conflict with automakers. Bosch will have to pass on the “significantly increased raw material, semiconductor and logistics costs to its customers,” said Markus Heyn, head of the auto division, on Wednesday. The price for flat and round steel has tripled since 2020, said CFO Markus Forschner at the balance sheet press conference in Renningen near Stuttgart. The war in Ukraine is driving prices further. Only if you pass on these costs can you continue to operate the “supplier business for the automotive industry profitably,” said Heyn. He pointed out that car prices had risen significantly, by almost 8 percent for electric cars alone in the past two months. He added that he didn’t think much of conducting negotiations in the media.

The dispute between suppliers and manufacturers escalated last week. Supplier Mahle publicly demanded more money from the manufacturers. The profits would be distributed unfairly. The supplier also turned to Mercedes-Benz. Its chief financial officer, Harald Wilhelm, brushed off the claim and said that everyone is responsible for their own profitability.
