All electric Mercedes bear the abbreviation EQ, and all of them have to live without the suffix “-Benz”. A, B, C, E, S and V are on offer, and an EQS electric SUV has been announced. A, B and C are SUVs, the rest are large sedans. Customers are probably waiting in vain for a compact battery-powered sedan with the star, which is positioned well below the 50,000 euro mark in terms of basic price. After all, not everyone wants to drive an SUV, but many do. That will be the reason why Mercedes-Benz is so active in this segment. We presented the 4.46 meter long EQA here on October 19, the EQB, which is now the subject of discussion, is twelve centimeters longer, has a wheelbase that is ten centimeters longer and consequently offers significantly more luggage compartment volume: instead of 340 to 1320 liters at least 495 up to 1710 liters. There is also the option of equipping the EQB with a third row of seats. That costs 1414 euros and 30 or 90 liters of luggage space.

Like the EQA, the EQB is also derived from a combustion engine model. Its basis is the GLB (driving report from August 4, 2020), which fell well behind the GLA (almost 18,000) and GLC (33,800) among German customers in 2021 with almost 8,200 new registrations. For classification: The A-Class came to 25,000 units, E and C to 22,000 each. This shows the important role played by the SUV. The GLB offers slightly more cargo space than the EQB, and its base model is around 15,000 euros cheaper, without taking the subsidy into account.
