Mauro Ferrari, Ph.D., visiting Sant’Agata Bolognese
Sant’Agata Bolognese/Houston (USA), 30 May 2017 – Automobili Lamborghini is collaborating with Houston Methodist Research Institute, to share its expertise in the study of carbon fiber composite materials.
The ongoing research project is focused on a biocompatibility study of composite materials to be used mainly in prosthetic implants, but also in subcutaneous devices. The aim is to identify new materials that are lighter, better tolerated by the human body, and more resistant over time than those currently used in the medical field.
Mauro Ferrari, Ph.D., President and CEO of the Houston Methodist Research Institute, was welcomed in Sant’Agata Bolognese by Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini.
Mauro Ferrari is an Italian scientist engaged mainly in nanotechnology research and in the field of applied bioengineering in medicine.
Automobili Lamborghini is a leader in the research and production of carbon fiber composite materials, and the Advanced Composite Lightweight Structures Department of Research & Development provides its experience not only in the automotive field but also in other sectors including biomedical.
In addition to Houston Methodist Research Institute, Lamborghini collaborates in Italy, on this and other research projects, with the Occupational Medicine Unit of Bologna University Hospital Authority St. Orsola-Malpighi Polyclinic (Prof. F.S. Violante, Dr. M.C. Nucci, Dr. V. Lodi), the Neurosurgery of IRCCS Institute of Neurological Sciences of Bologna (Dr. C. Sturiale, Dr. N. McLaren Milestone: 15,000 Cars Built Since 2011

27 May 2018, 9:06 UTC · by Mircea Panait
/ Home / News / Car Profile

In 2011, McLaren started production of the 12C at its facility in Woking, Surrey. Seven years later, the British automaker celebrates 15,000 vehicles manufactured since then, a feat that comes less than 18 months after the 10,000th automobile built.
34 photosFirst things first, the milestone comes after a most successful 2017, with McLaren shipping 3,340 cars in the previous calendar year. And secondly, the F1 from the 1990s came out at a time when McLaren’s automotive division wasn’t even a thing.
“The Sports Series has been pivotal to driving this growth, with the 570S Spider now the most popular of the range,” said Mike Flewitt, chief executive officer at McLaren Automotive. “The fact we are now able to produce 20 cars a day is of course a great testament to the hard work and dedication of every one of our workforce, who should feel justifiably proud and part of this great team effort.”
For the time being, there are three tiers of road-going McLaren models. The range starts with the Sports Series (540 and 570), continues with the Super Series (720), and tops with the Ultimate Series (P1, Senna, BP23 Hyper-GT). Bearing in mind that the Woking-based company came out with the 12C seven years ago, it’s very, very impressive how much things have changed in such a short amount of time.
At the present moment, around two-thirds of global sales come from the Sports Series and one-third from the Super Series. The Ultimate Series, as you can tell from the pricing of the Senna, is in a different league altogether. And speaking of the Senna, the twin-turbo V8-powered blunderbuss has recently entered production.
The place where it’s built, the McLaren Production Center, was designed by Foster + Partners and took just under 14 months from breaking ground to the first-ever 12C approved for shipping. Be that as it may, Lamborghini (3,815) and Ferrari (8,398) sell more vehicles than McLaren. Heck, even Rolls-Royce managed to deliver 3,362 cars to its customers in 2017.
But on the other hand, you could say that McLaren is the most exclusive name of the lot by a long margin. And chances are things won't change, more so if you bear in mind McLaren doesn't plan to add an SUV to its lineup.

His successor, who also possesses a wealth ofexperience in this area, will be continuing this success,” says Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board Management of AUDI AG and Chairman ofthe Administrative Board of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A.

From 1996,Domenicali was responsible for sponsors of Scuderia Ferrari, before becoming sporting directorof the Formula 1 team in 1998. From 2004 to 2007 he headed the Direzione Sportiva F1. In 2008 he was Team Principal of Scuderia Ferrari F1, which won the Constructors' World Championship that year. From 2009 to 2014 Domenicali represented Ferrari in the F.I.A World Motor Sport Council and still belongs to that body today. He is currently president of the F.I.A. Single Seater Commission.
He has been Vice President New Business Initiatives at AUDI AG since November 2014.

Stefano Domenicali says: “I am very excited to be taking on the challenges of this great legacy. It is now my duty to continue the successes that my predecessor Stephan Winkelmann achieved for Automobili Lamborghini.”
Stephan Winkelmann comments: “I have been responsible for Lamborghini for a significant periodof time in its history, and in the process have always aimed to use the brand's potential to achieve very ambitious goals. Lamborghini's key corporate data displays continual, profitable growth with a focus on the development of new products, new processes, and many other corporate sectors. Together with my colleagues from the Board of Directors, I was able to facilitate successful initial release of our third model series being launched in 2018. These successes would not have been possible without the passion, skill, creativity, and courage that are ingrained in the Lamborghini DNA and in our employees. I would like to thank everyone for this time from the bottom of my heart.”
