Fisker electric SUV teaser shows off a unique D-pillar turn signal

Road/Show by CNET article by ANDREW KROK

This is the first time we've seen anything of its rear end.

There's bound to still be a turn signal in the taillight, right?

Henrik Fisker is determined to make it happen again. After launching the plug-in hybrid Fisker Karma, and subsequently abandoning the project and off-loading its IP to the group that eventually started Karma Automotive, the automotive designer is preparing to launch his next vehicular venture. We've only seen hints of the front end, but now, it's time to take a look 'round back.

Henrik Fisker this week tweeted out a teaser for his upcoming electric SUV. It's the first time we've seen even part of the rear end, and it looks pretty interesting, especially the body line that rises well above the shoulder line as it works its way back toward the D-pillar. The roof looks to have a bit of a fastback angle to it, and the taillights (what we can see, at least) look plenty slim.

The most interesting bit, however, is an integrated turn signal in the D-pillar. According to Fisker's tweet, it's meant to “provide extra safety when you change lanes.” Additional lane-change signals are not necessarily new, but the overwhelming majority of them are slapped on the side-view mirrors. This is a unique location to put a marker, considering turn signals are usually integrated into the taillight structure.

So far, we've only seen hints of the unnamed SUV's front end. It's an interesting look, with headlights that have more than a hint of Range Rover in them, with some properly bulky fenders and bumpers that give the ute a little more rugged look than one might expect from a tech-forward electric vehicle. It's unclear when we'll get to see the whole thing, but given Fisker's timeline, it shouldn't be too far down the road.

Fisker first announced his intention to build an electric SUV in March. He estimates that the car will have an all-electric range north of 300 miles, yet its price tag is aiming below $40,000, which would make it one heck of a deal. The hope is that it'll come out in 2021, but before that, a drivable prototype is expected to make an appearance before the end of this year.

Here's the front-quarter teaser that debuted earlier this year, in case you haven't seen it or forgot what it looks like.

James Glickenhaus Calls Out De Tomaso For Copying The Ferrari P4/5 – Carscoops

De Tomaso used the Goodwood Festival of Speed to unveil the new P72 and it appears not everyone is a fan. While the car is pretty stunning, it also looks a bit familiar. James Glickenhaus believes there’s a good reason for this as he suggested the model is nothing more than a copy. In a… Continue reading James Glickenhaus Calls Out De Tomaso For Copying The Ferrari P4/5 – Carscoops

The car as a living space – 2025AD

No car model is quite like the other. There are vans, sedans, cabriolets or SUVs, just to name a few. Car designs differ depending on the price range and have obviously changed substantially over the years.   However, looking at the bigger picture, car interiors have remained remarkably similar. Due to the nature of driving as we… Continue reading The car as a living space – 2025AD

New electric SUV offers inductive charging, so no need to plug in: Fisker CEO

By Stu Oppenheim
Published March 18, 2019, FOXBusiness

The road rivalry is revving up as electric car brand Fisker is set to take on Tesla’s Model Y.

“We will offer inductive charging so you won’t have to plug in your car to charge,” Fisker Inc. CEO Henrik Fisker told FOX Business’ “Countdown to the Closing Bell” on Monday.

Fisker is looking to release his newest model SUV in about two years.

“We are looking right now at eight states here in the U.S. We have sort of RFPs out, meaning tenders eight states, to talk with them about possible locations, he said. “We’ll launch it by around mid-2021.”

Fisker’s Bold New Turn Indicator Innovation Is Really a Resurrection of an Old Idea

The 2CV had this setup from 1948 to (I think) 1970, though I don’t think the major motive for this indicator arrangement was safety; I think Citroën was trying to make indicators that could be seen from all corners of the car with just two lamps, to keep things cheap. Eventually, they gave in and put indicators on the front fenders and in the taillights, but they rode this method for a good long while.

Now, Fisker isn’t even the first to put indicators on the actual D-pillar, as we’ve had Volvos (and other cars and vans and SUVs) that have been doing this for a while.

Fisker teases solar roof for upcoming electric SUV

Road/Show by CNET article by ANDREW KROK

The Fisker Karma had a solar panel in the roof, too, so this shouldn't come as a surprise.

I have to imagine those lines on the roof are just stylistic renderings.

Henrik Fisker, and the automotive manufacturer that bore his name, was one of the first to implement solar panels across the length of a car's roof. While the Fisker Karma might be dead, gone and subsequently revived under a new name now, Fisker himself has started a new venture and, what do you know, this new car will have a solar roof, too.

Henrik Fisker took to social media on Wednesday to promote a new teaser for his company's upcoming electric SUV. This new teaser shows a little bit more of the crossover's back end, but more importantly, it shows that this new car will have a solar roof running the length of the vehicle. The car appears to also have a sunroof, so it's unclear how that will all be implemented together, but until the car shows up in the real world, we'll have to take Fisker's word for it.

Last week, we got a different view of the Fisker SUV's tuchus. Fisker tweeted out an image of the car's roof and D-pillar, with a clever integrated turn signal mounted high above the taillight. Fisker says it will improve safety, but it's unclear what benefits are offered by changing the turn signal's location. Previous teasers have shown off the front end from various angles, and it's a beefy looking thing, that's for sure.

Fisker has promised that a drivable prototype will be ready by the end of the year. So far, all we know is that the company aims to have a range in excess of 300 miles, yet its starting price will stay under the $40,000 mark. Sales are expected to take place in the second half of 2021, so there's likely some time before we see the actual production version of this still-unnamed utility vehicle.
