It was not only one of the largest Volkswagen events in the world, but also a mecca for car enthusiasts and tuning enthusiasts: the legendary GTI meeting on Lake Wörthersee. Since 1982, thousands upon thousands of visitors have made the pilgrimage to Austria every May before Ascension Day to celebrate their love for Volkswagen. At the end of the 1980s, it went so far that an original-size GTI monument carved out of stone was erected in the tranquil village of Reifnitz.
