German FAZ: 45-year-old engineer becomes boss of Daimler Truck007598

The question of succession at Daimler Truck has been clarified. Karin Rådström will now lead the world’s largest truck manufacturer and will take over from Martin Daum, as the company announced on Tuesday evening. Daum will step down from his position at the end of September, but will remain on the board until the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition. Rådström joined the board of Daimler Truck in 2021 and has been responsible for the Mercedes-Benz brand since then. The 45-year-old engineer successfully increased the segment’s profitability within a very short period of time. “She has proven that she can successfully drive forward the transformation of a brand while at the same time mastering a challenging external environment,” said Chairman of the Supervisory Board Joe Kaeser, according to the statement. “As a convincing leader, Rådström has contributed to establishing a new performance culture and promoting empowerment, diversity and customer focus.” Before joining Daimler Truck, Rådström led the Sales & Marketing department as a board member at Scania. She previously held the position of Senior Vice President, Head of Buses & Coaches at her former employer. Daum is a “trucker with heart and soul.” Daum will be leaving the Daimler Group at the end of the year after more than 25 years. The now 64-year-old began his career in 1987 at what was then Daimler-Benz AG and played a key role in establishing Daimler Trucks North America. Kaeser calls Daum a “trucker with heart and soul” and thanked him for the work he has done. “Under Daum’s leadership, Daimler Truck has convincingly completed the change from a corporate division to a successful, independent DAX company,” said Kaeser, according to the statement.More on the topic The employee representatives at Daimler Truck also welcome Rådström’s appointment. “We have worked well and trustingly with Rådström over the past few years,” says General Works Council Chairman Michael Brecht. “It is important to us that Daimler Truck remains a successful and sustainable company with her at the helm. The interests of employees and shareholders must be taken into account equally,” Brecht continued. Rådström will initially remain responsible for the Mercedes-Benz Trucks brand until a decision has been made about the successor.
