In the fight for more climate protection, long-time Daimler Truck boss Martin Daum has brought an annual surcharge on the price of gasoline into play in order to encourage more people to switch to electric cars. “If we were to go out today and say: Every January 1st, an additional ten cents will be added to the liter of gasoline, from now until infinity, then for the first three or four years it will still be within the normal fluctuation range of the gasoline price,” said the 64-year-old in the SWR video podcast “On the matter intensively”. But the desired effect will soon come: “And then at some point it will bite so badly that if you are a frequent driver you would never think of buying a petrol car, but would immediately buy an electric car.”
