Without Olga’s help, the everyday life of Judge Jan Spoenle and his colleagues would be quite difficult. They have been dealing with lawsuits over the diesel scandal for several years, particularly involving Mercedes models at the Higher Regional Court in Stuttgart. Almost 30,000 such procedures have been received there so far. At its peak, last summer, 15,000 cases were pending at the same time, says Spoenle. He is an assessor in one of four diesel panels that were created at the court to deal with the flood of lawsuits.
