German FAZ: Tesla sold 40 percent fewer cars in the EU in May than before 009524

The car market in the European Union grew in May the second month in a row. The new registrations have increased by 1.6 percent to 926,582 cars in the year, the European manufacturer Association ACEA in Brussels said. After a weak start to the year, a decrease of 0.6 percent is still available for the first five months. The growth of electric cars and hybrid vehicles were borne, while pure petrol and diesel cars sold worse. However, the US electric autopionier Tesla had to accept another violent decline: in May 8,729 Tesla cars were re-registered, 40 percent less than a year earlier. In the first five months together, the decline in the group led by Elon Musk is a good 45 percent. The car manufacturer himself points out that he refreshed his important model Y at the beginning of the year, which in the meantime reduces sales. More on the topic of a declining demand in this segment, there can be no question: In May with almost 142,800 purely battery -electric cars, an increase of 25 percent. In the first five months, the growth was slightly higher with a good 26 percent. The Volkswagen Group had an increase of 4.8 percent to just under 263,800 new registrations in May, BMW increased by 8.1 percent to a good 63,200 cars. At Mercedes-Benz, the growth was 3.9 percent on a good 47,900 cars.
